Meet Aaron Shelton, a 五月天视频 alum whose time on campus helped chart a course from Heidelberg鈥檚 lecture halls to the cutting-edge of aviation technology. Aaron earned his Master鈥檚 in International Management between 2017 and 2019 at Schiller鈥檚 Heidelberg campus. Today, he calls Bamberg, Germany home, while leading as Head of Department for Methods & Tools at Volocopter GmbH in Karlsruhe. In this Alumni Spotlight, Aaron shares how Schiller鈥檚 international environment, collaborative projects, and multicultural student body honed the global mindset and communication skills that propel his work in a fast-paced, technology-driven industry.

Schiller Alumni Aaron SheltonWhy did you choose Schiller?

I chose Schiller primarily due to the location as well as Schiller offering these courses in English.

Can you share some of your fondest memories from your time at 五月天视频?聽

Some of my favorite memories from Schiller are the simple ones. Hanging out with classmates in Heidelberg鈥檚 Altstadt after class. We鈥檇 grab lunch in the city center or meet up on weekends for dinner, talking about where we grew up, our different cultures, and of course, food. We even took turns cooking traditional dishes for each other. The best days were when someone鈥檚 parents came to visit and cooked for everyone, it felt like a little piece of home showed up in Heidelberg. Those moments really stuck with me.

How would you describe the spirit and culture of Schiller during your years on campus?

The main term that comes to mind for the spirit and culture of Schiller during my time is actually, ambitious. I believe most of the students were there to actually make a difference and gather experiences that would really help them in their future careers. Most students were attentive in class and for what I could tell, tried extremely hard in their course work.

Are you still in touch with some of your friends from your years as a student?聽

Yes, I am. We stay in touch via Social Media, sometimes meeting in person, but that is a bit rarer these days.

Did someone from the staff or faculty leave an impression that you still carry until this day?

Prof Stevic. She oversaw my dissertation, she also help me find a wonderful internship.

Are there any qualities of the Schiller education that you believe continue to benefit students today?

During my time at Schiller, we did quite a few group projects. Now, almost every time I have an assignment at work, I think back to those experiences. Believe it or not, about 90% of what you do in the real world involves teamwork and depending on your role or company, you鈥檙e likely working with people from all over the world. I often realize how well Schiller prepared me for that.

How has your education at Schiller played a role in your life since graduation?聽

What do you consider to be the most valuable aspect of your Schiller experience?聽

I am sure I am repeating it, but its the international experience. Most universities in the world can鈥檛 offer this experience.

What skill did you pick up or develop at Schiller that you currently use?聽

Presenting and communicating clearly is such an important skill. Schiller was one of my first real experiences working with non-native English speakers, and it made me more mindful that English might be someone鈥檚 third or fourth language. It taught me to be patient, to listen carefully, and to make sure everyone feels included in the conversation.

What advice would you give to current students to help them make the most of their Schiller experience?聽

Be curious and ask questions. It鈥檚 more than okay not to know the answer at first, what matters is being willing to find it later or bringing together the people who do. Meet people, open up, and get involved. And lastly, you really get out of the courses what you put into them. If a class feels too easy, it probably means you鈥檙e not challenging yourself enough yet.
